Guerin Could be Good Fit in Tampa

Bolts Sign Defenseman Jones to One-Year Deal

It’s been a busy day for Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman.  After announcing the signing of restricted free agent forward Steve Downie earlier in the day, Yzerman announced this evening that the club had signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Randy Jones to a one year contract.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.  UPDATED:  As per CapGeek, Jones’ deal is worth $1 million for the one year*

RFA Downie Signed to Two-Year Deal

As reported on Twitter by TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed restricted free agent right winger Steve Downie to a two year contract.  Downie will get a big raise over the $800,000 he made last season, as the deal will pay him $3.7 million over the two years, for an annual cap hit of $1.85 million.

Captain Lecavalier Set for Surgery Tuesday

As reported on TSN.ca, Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday.

Busy Few Days for the Lightning


It was a busy week for the Tampa Bay Lightning as they signed an unrestricted free agent forward, swapped goaltending prospects with the Montreal Canadiens, and hired a new Director of Amateur Scouting.

Steve Yzerman announced Tuesday that the club had signed the free agent left wing to a one-year deal.  The contract will pay Bergenheim $700,000 for the 2010-11 season. 

Bergenheim represents another much-needed NHL-calibre, depth winger, something that was obviously lacking at the end of the 2009-10 campaign.

Bolts 2010-11 Season Outlook: Playoffs or Bust?

Much has been made about the spinning of the wheels that the Tampa Bay Lightning organization has experienced over the course of the last three years.

But the sins of past ownership are quickly being corrected, and there is an air of optimism and excitement surrounding the Bolts these days.  And for good reason.  As I’ve said before, it’s as if you can finally see the light(ning) at the end of the tunnel.

Another Building Block in Place – Cooper hired as Admirals’ Head Coach

Another building block for a franchise that has made a leap of epic proportions in the past two months.

Downie Signing Taking Longer Than Expected

Even though it’s only the early stages of August, you have to think the fact that restricted free agent Steve Downie is still not signed at this point is not a good sign.  It has been a foregone conclusion that Downie would be re-signed, but contract negotiations between Lightning GM Steve Yzerman and Downie’s agent, Rick Curran, haven’t really gotten off the ground floor.

Vinik’s Blueprint for Franchise Coming to Fruition

What a difference two months can make.  Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman may have only been on the job since late-May, but he and owner Jeffrey Vinik have made a host of moves to strengthen the entire organization.  From top to bottom, the Tampa Bay Lightning have seen an overhaul.

On the heels of signing three defensemen on Thursday, Tampa Bay Lightning Vice President and GM Steve Yzerman announced Friday that the club has signed free agent center Dominic Moore to a two-year contract.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
